     Multimedia is a mode of communication that combines several content types, such as text, audio, images, animations, or video into a single presentation, in contrast to traditional mass media, such as printed material or audio recordings. Typical examples of multimedia include films, animated television shows, audio slideshows, and video podcasts.

Multimedia content can be recorded on demand or in real time and streamed to computers, laptops, smartphones, and other electronic devices. When the medium was first developed, the term "rich media" referred to interactive multimedia. The World Wide Web gradually incorporated multimedia through hypermedia extensions.
